> Really, OS/2 is a total non-issue in the CAD and engineering field,

I am an engineer who is not new to computers. I cut my teeth writing
Fortran on an IBM 1401, and spent years using mainframes for number
crunching calculations.
I have been running a home office on OS/2 for the last five years. During
that time, I have had a PC on line around the clock for receiving faxes,
and I have never had cause to worry that I might miss a fax because the OS
was down.
I run Microstation Powerdraft DOS on OS/2, and have refrained from
upgrading to Microstation OS/2 only because the extra features are not
worth the extra $3,000 to me.
I understand that Microstation are porting their products to Java in order
to avoid supporting multiple platforms. I suppose it is more good
management than good luck that OS/2 is already a Java Virtual Machine.
I combined CAD drawings, reprocessed photographs and text, to produce a
technical manual in stunning colour, using OS/2 apps and a bureau colour
laser printer. I delivered the 100+ MB postscript file to them on a CD that
I burned at home.
The only Windows apps that I resort to are National Bank Online, and the
image capture utility that comes with the Tekram TV card.
I have experimented with industrial process control using OS/2 and REXX,
and I am confident that I can build a PC based Distributed Control System
which will be more capable and less expensive than a PLC.
Given that 32 bit Windows came on the scene long after I was already up and
running with 32 bit OS/2, what am I missing? why should I change?
Given that Autocad dominates it's field, why do you write about other CAD
apps which, by your own definition, are total non-issues?
By the way, I have seen your CAD magazine but I don't buy it because it is
of no interest to OS/2 users.

as Chris pointed out, we have omitted Philippe-Charles Krug-Basse contact
details. He can be reached at: <100022.2237@compuserve.com>
and, one of several replies:
Fm: Joachim Bluhm 100317,1574
Hi Philippe,
why don't you try and contact IBM directly? I'd ask for the responsible
person in one of the IBM support forums and then contact that person
directly. If they're in any way intersted in getting more software for OS/2
on the market, they'd either provide you with some user-ID's (what I doubt)
or at least offer to send out your questionaire to the registered Users
that have E-Mail. If none of this is working, contact Team-OS/2 and ask
them...
Just an idea,
Joachim
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Joachim,
Thanks for your enthousiam, but don't dream!
I have done business with IBM, and especially with the PSP and the OS/2
group, and let me tell you that my last experience was the least. Now, I'm
on my own and nothing but a big check will change my view with regard to
Big Blue.
However, nice idea, but totaly unrealistic with Big Blue!
I have been a very active OS/2 business partner (Best Team Premier) these
last 10 years, doing development almost exclusively for OS/2 and you just
can't imagine how difficult (impossible) it is to work with IBM. More, with
regard to OS/2, any "partner" is even suspected to be an ennemi to the
major part of IBM (including especialy the PC Co). And for the matter to
obtain any list from them, let me tell you that it will be easier to borrow
the jewels of the Queen of England that to get a simpl e name and address
from Big Blue! I KNOW that they have over 2 million OS/2 registrered users
worldwide, but even if they give up to this OS, they will never ever give
to anyone this list. Too bad. Today, they don't give a damn to OS/2, but
they even more hate the idea that someone may do some business with it!
Cheers. Philippe.

files in the list below are new at ftp.leo.org (previously known as
ftp.informatik.tu-muenchen.de) in the OS/2 section under
ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/.
Since LEO's OS/2 archive also contains mirrors for XFree86 for OS/2 and a
part of IBM's ftp.boulder.ibm.com FixPak distribution servers, there may be
new items in these mirrors too, but they are not listed here.
See /pub/comp/os/os2/leo/00-files for a full index of this OS/2 archive and
00-readme for other information, such as how to upload to this archive.
If you have trouble accessing ftp.leo.org, you can try a different server
name for this archive, ftp.informatik.tu-muenchen.de.
The archive can also be accessed via WWW using the following URL:
http://www.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/
Using this WWW front end, you can easily navigate through the archive, view
archive contents (even view README or FILEID_DIZ etc. files from within
ZIP files directly) and, finally, download files. You can also send
feedback to the archive maintainers.

'InProTrack' is short for 'Installed Product Tracker'.
The program retrieves the current installed components from syslevel and
other system config files and shows the results in a nice looking PM
dialog.
Why?
------
In some cases - like before performing component updates - it is usefull to
know which codelevel is the recent one. InProTrack tries to show the
desired informations in an easy, fast and comfortable way.

Program: ALiVe! 1.0 Beta 3 Release date: July 1998 Website:
http://www3.pair.com/jsight/ Email: jsight@pair.com Operating System:
OS/2,Win95,Win98,WinNT,Mac,Unix,etc.
ALiVe! 1.0 Features * Full validation of links in HTML-based web pages *
Fast multithreaded checking engine * Easy-to-use, intuitive interface *
HTTP Proxy support built-in * Generates full HTML reports * Supports
Windows, Mac, UNIX, and OS/2 platforms
ALiVe! 1.0 Basic Description For a variety of reasons, web pages move and
occasionally disappear without any notification to the people who link to
them. ALiVe! simply verifies these links and reports to you which ones are
dead links.
ALiVe! 1.0 Detailed Description At first, ALiVe! works very similarly to a
web browser. You give it a URL, it downloads the page from the web, and
then extracts the links. The major difference being that instead of
displaying the page for you to read, AliVe extracts all of the links from
the page and puts them into a database. It then proceeds to download each
of the links that it deems to also be a part of your website.
Once it has downloaded all of the pages from your site and extracted the
links, it begins the "Validation" process. By validation, I mean that it
connects to the webserver that the link points to and attempts to download
the page as usual. If it an error, it logs the error and continues on. If
the download begins successfully, it will cancel the transfer and move on
to the rest of the links.
At the end of the process, you are presented with a detailed summary of the
number of links on your website, and how many of those links suffer from
problems, so that you may correct them.
Price information : US $25
