Trials of Battle for OS/2!
OS/2 Gaming gets its biggest game yet!
Canton MI -- Stardock Systems, a leading OS/2 software vendor, announced
Trials of Battle today. Trials of Battle, a fast paced first person action
game that has been described as a combination of Quake and Mech Warrior,
is in fact the first 3D action game designed specifically for OS/2.
Developed by Shadowsoft, Trials of Battle uses all of OS/2's latest
multimedia advances. Trials of Battle has excellent graphics, sound, and a
full digital musical sound track.
"I think this game will replace Galactic Civilizations as OS/2's #1 game."
said Brad Wardell, Designer of Galactic Civilizations. "It's a terrific
game that people can sit down and get into right away but has enough
elements to keep people playing for a long time."
In Trials of Battle, you have been taken to a distant world where you must
compete against other beings in an arena. You can choose from up to 3
different combat vehicles and equip them with weapons, armor, sensors, and
a host of other abilities. Users gain purchase points from their deeds in
the combat arena and can continually improve their craft. As players move
up in rank and points, tougher opponents enter the arenas to challenge the
player. Trials of Battle clearly stands apart from other games of the
genre by boasting sophisticated computer controlled enemies. Unlike games
such as Quake, DOOM, Duke Nukem, Mech Warrior, etc. where the computer
players try to defeat you by overwhelming numbers, the AI in Trials of
Battle will try to dodge your shots, escape if necessary, and attack very
aggressively.
But Trials of Battle also shines in its multi-player abilities. It has
possibly the most flexible multi-player interface yet seen In a game. When
a player starts a multi-player game, others can join that machine from the
LAN (Local Area Network), directly from the modem, or from the Internet
all at the same time. Up to 12 players can be in the arena at once and
even join games that are already in progress.
"Anyone that's ever played a multi-player game knows how much of a pain it
can be to start it up. Trials of Battle was designed to make multi-player
games a snap. My friends and I can be playing and others can join in
during the middle of it." said Wardell.
The graphics in Trials of Battle are easily some of the best seen in the
32-bit gaming world. The team that developed the graphics for Trials of
Battle has previously worked on several well known projects including the
Babylon 5 TV show's star ships. Trials of Battle is also the first
commercial OS/2 game to support DART's digital mixing allowing several
sounds to be played at the same time.
Because Shadowsoft and Stardock didn't want to exclude any OS/2 users from
the game, it supports adjustable graphics quality allowing users with even
a 486DX to play. Users with high end machines can turn on the high end
texture mapping to give the game a more realistic look.
OS/2 users have had a long time to wait for a good first person action
game. Trials of Battle won't disappoint, it's everything OS/2 users have
been asking for and much more.
Trials of Battle will be generally available on December 20 and because
Stardock expects so many to sell, it has a special introductory price of
only $45. It requires OS/2 Warp 3 or later. Trials of Battle will be
available at most outlets that carry OS/2 software or directly from
Stardock at 1-800-672-2338. Trials of Battle for OS/2 Warp
Requires: OS/2 Warp 3.0 or later Sound Card highly recommended
