<<< Voyager VRML V2.0 Viewer for OS/2 Warp >>>

Calgary, Canada, 05 February 1998 -- Snow Storm Software today
announced Voyager, OS/2 Warp's premier VRML V2.0 Viewer Netscape
Plugin. Voyager is available immediately for $29US, and features
an advanced OpenGL based dynamic rendering system.

Voyager fills a market need for OS/2 Warp VRML V2.0 plugins
which were previously unavailable. As a native, 32-bit,
multithreaded, optimized, Netscape for OS/2 Plugin, and built
around OS/2 Warp's OpenGL 3D rendering system, Voyager
simultaneously achieves both high quality and performance.
Designed to be fully automated, Voyager is very easy to use
alleviating the need for cumbersome user interfaces. Voyager is
a fully integrated Netscape plugin providing full and embedded
window support.

"Voyager was a natural extension to our existing line of OpenGL
products providing exciting VRML V2.0 support for OS/2 users",
said Sheldon Zaharichuk, president of Snow Storm Software.
"Demand for 3D VRML Internet technologies is constantly
increasing and as such, we are very excited with this premier
release. OS/2 users up to now have been unaware of what they are
missing."

Voyager requires an OS/2 Warp system with OpenGL support
installed (provided by IBM and included in Warp 4.0). 486 66MHz
processor and 12 MB of memory are minimal, with Pentium class
processors and 16MB+ memory recommended, and at least 256 color
video support, with 65536+ color support recommended. Netscape
for OS/2 is also required.

Voyager has a suggested retail price of $29US.

Snow Storm Software, founded in 1990, with headquarters in
Calgary, Canada, are dedicated OS/2 applications developers and
software consultants. The company provides custom and commercial
developments for OS/2, JAVA and Windows ranging from engineering
simulation software, through to dynamic multimedia applications.

Note from InnoVal

Two brief topics:

1) Please send tech support questions for Post Road Mailer, Hacksaw,
NetExtra, etc., to helpdesk@innoval.com. It is important to us to help
you as quickly as possible. When questions are sent to other email
addresses, it lengthens the process.

2) We finally did it. Yesterday, InnoVal released the first beta build
of our Java email client, J Street Mailer -- thanks to the many of you
who provided support and encouragement in this project. We have a lot
to do yet to move J Street Mailer from early beta to gold code so let us
know your ideas.

Please take a minute to go over to our updated home page and read about
J Street Mailer. Check out the features list and press release.

FtpServer version 0.51
Peter Moylan Tue, 03 Feb 1998
17:15:01 +1100

If a month goes by without a new release of FtpServer, I get e-mail
asking whether I've abandoned it! So here's the new version
ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/freeware/ftpser051.zip

The latest changes are:

Version 0.51
Added SITE MNGR KILL command, and an option
in MONITOR.EXE to kill a session.
DETFTPD.EXE dropped from distribution; instead, FTPD.EXE now
determines for itself whether it is running detached.
ADMIN and USEREDIT programs scrapped; replaced by
SETUP.EXE and MONITOR.EXE.
Fixed an error that stopped the utility programs from exiting
properly when run in a full-screen session or via Telnet.
Documentation converted to INF format.
We no longer log "change directory" commands that fail. [Untested]

You'll notice that this is no longer labelled as a "beta". I'm not going
to claim that I've removed all bugs (in fact, I'm still trying to track
down a couple), but I think I can safely say that the program is now less
buggy than most commercial software.

There is one new bug that's a little annoying. From version 0.44 onwards
the server had code to suppress the "drive not ready" popups that can
occur if the user has access to a floppy or CD-ROM drive. For some reason
this suppression has stopped working, and the popups have come back. I'm
still trying to track down the cause of this fault. For now, I'd suggest
that you don't give users access to removable drives if the server is
running on an unattended machine.

If you read between the lines, you'll see that I'm now working towards
getting rid of permission files, and moving the user data into the INI
file. This should happen about two or three versions from now, and I'll
try to do it in a way that gives an easy transition for existing users.
(Probably with a utility that loads data from a PRM file into the INI
file.) If this approach is going to inconvenience anyone, now is the time
to say so.

apparently some updates might be floating around hobbes... ?

BUT, complain/demand/praise Epson Japan re fate/future/lack of OS/2
drivers
====================================================================
if you purchase an APC UPS unit, it no longer includes OS/2 software,
only NT, WinDOS and Netware ship with it, APC expects you to buy it for
A$150 extra, however DON'T. Call and complain loudly to APC,
they will send it to you for free.
