----------

I've just updated my OS/2 Soundcard Summary, which is available at
http://ezinfo.ucs.indiana.edu/~rodsmith/sound.html. This revision
sees lots of little detail changes, many related to VTD support for
various boards. Here's the change list:

1. Miscellaneous small textual changes.
2. Greater rigor to ensure proper HTML codes. (Check the above link
to the "any browser" site for some eye-openers about proper HTML
format.) For the moment, I've addressed the main pages for the
major sections and the contents of specific boards and chipsets
that have changed in this version; pages without content changes
have received less attention on this matter.
3. Warp 4.0's VoiceType does NOT work with all sound boards with
MMPM/2 drivers; it requires drivers that support the DART
extensions. I've added a partial list of boards that do and
do not work well with VTD to the Technology section, and have
added flags to boards that don't work with VTD in their individual
sections.
4. I've been informed that the AudioMedia III board (mentioned in
the technology section) is actually marketed by DigiDesign, not
Avid Technology.
5. Creative Labs has announced that they will be doing no further
development for OS/2.
6. I've removed OPTi-based boards from man of the purchase
recommendation
categories because of their problems with VTD under Warp 4.0.
7. Updated information on getting the Acer Magic S20 to work.
8. Updated procedure for getting around problems installing Win-OS/2
support on IBM Multimedia Modem boards.
9. The latest IBM Aptiva computers come with Mwave boards for which no
OS/2 drivers are yet available.
10. Links to additional utilities for Mwave boards, and especially
Dynalink models.
11. The Ensoniq boards apparently don't support VTD.
12. Updates to the Mediatrix section on their plans for OS/2 support.
13. Updated URLs for miro.
14. Updated contact information for OPTi.
15. Another site listed with Reveal information.
16. (Minimal) information added on the Turtle Beach Tropez Plus board.
17. New drivers for Crystal Semiconductor boards are available, and I
have some notes on improving VTD performance with some of these
boards.

Fellow OS/2 USers,
This post is to announce the availability of a new OS/2 site, the
OS/2 Supersite, at http://www.os2ss.com This site has been in
preparation for several months. At present it contains a partial
mirror of the Hobbes ftp site. As we secure more support, the site
will be expanded to completely mirror Hobbes. We will be
adding other features, and we also solicit your suggestions.
Please stop by and check it out, especially when your downloads
from Hobbes are crawling along. :-)
