The OS/2 Supersite

Reply-to: terrell@falcon-net.com (Dr. Dirk Terrell)
--------------------------------------------------------------------- After
months of planning and work, The OS/2 Supersite is now ready for use by the
OS/2 community. The Supersite is planned to be the eventual replacement for
the volunteer HOBBES FTP site, and will be a professionally maintained site
for OS/2 software, news, information, and secure online shareware
registration through BMT Micro. We grew tired of the slow connections to
HOBBES, and the neglect that the site received at times in the past, so we
decided to develop the OS/2 Supersite. At the moment the site contains a
partial mirror of HOBBES (UNIX and multimedia directories have not yet been
completed), but your support will enable us to add more features. Please stop
by and give us a look when you are looking for OS/2 shareware and freeware.

The OS/2 Supersite is now online at http://www.os2ss.com

EmTec to assume Neologic Network Suite development

Reply-to: bmt@wilmington.net
--------------------------------------------------------------------- 10
January, 1997 - Fuerth, Germany EmTec Innovative Software hereby announces
that it has purchased the rights to the product formerly known as Neologic
Network Suite.

"Neologic was looking for a new home for the Net Suite because of personal
reasons (which I did not question), and I am glad that they entrust their
work into our hands" says Markus Schmidt, the person behind EmTec Innovative
Software and author of the successful communication program ZOC. "I know that
no one can support a program like the person who programmed it can, but EmTec
has a good deal of experience in working with 3rd party source code and we
will use our best efforts to live up to expectations".

A new release is scheduled for mid-January. It fixes at least 7 major and 10
minor bugs in the news and FTP client and will reflect the name change and
some minor cosmetic changes.

The new release will be posted to all major OS/2 FTP sites by January 15th.

Existing customers can transition to the new suite with their existing
registration information. New customers can continue to purchase the EmTec
Software Suite directly from BMT Micro, Inc. which will handle registrations
and first level customer support.

"The main reason for hosting the Network Suite is that we want to keep this
great product alive.", says Markus Schmidt, "Our first goal is set up a
routine that will ensure the continuity of the product and we will consider
it a success if people will see the whole affair as a name change and nothing
else."

EmTec Innovative Software, a leader in OS/2 and Windows NT telecommunications
software, is headquartered in Fuerth, Germany. For more information about

Warp: Enabling Network Computing

Imagine a world where every communications device, from PCs to palmtops to
cellular phones, has access to information from anywhere. Every device
communicates in a standard way, using open Internet technologies (including
Java). Applications are written once and run everywhere, distributed where
and when you choose.

That world is fast approaching, and OS/2 Warp can take you into the world of
network computing today. Please join us for a live broadcast from London,
England at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (New York) Time on February 5, 1997. (A
rebroadcast, with live answers to your questions, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Eastern Time.)

Most IBM locations, worldwide, will be open for you to view this broadcast.
Or you may be able to view the broadcast through satellite television. For
more information on open viewing locations, please visit the OS/2 Warp
Teleseminar homepage at http://www.austin.ibm.com/pspinfo/telesemi.html. Or,
in the U.S., phone 1-800-426-7914 and request priority code OS2NC. Or contact
IBM by Internet mail at areacamp@vnet.ibm.com.

Don't miss this 4th in a series of teleseminars and experience how IBM, OS/2
Warp, and Java can help you exploit the emerging world of network computing.

IBM Establishes OS/2 Warp Java Business Unit; Java Customer Conferences

--------------------------------------------------------------------- IBM
Establishes OS/2 Warp Business Unit to Develop Network Computing Applications
for Customers New Business Unit Hosts Customer Summit Offering, Network
Computing and Java Solutions

AUSTIN, TX, January 8, 1997 . . . In a concerted effort to help OS/2* Warp
customers design and implement network computing solutions, IBM today
announced the formation of the Network Computing Projects business unit. The
organization will work with OS/2 Warp customers to design and develop custom,
mission-critical, business applications based on Network Computing
technologies such as Lotus Domino** for OS/2 Warp, Sun Microsystems,***
Inc.'s Java***, IBM's VisualAge* and other related products.

In addition, the unit is hosting the first in a series of Java Customer
Summit conferences from Jan. 8-10, at IBM's facilities in Austin, Texas.
These conferences are being held worldwide to help educate and train
corporate application developers and IT executives as they prepare to design
and develop network computing applications that will run on OS/2 Warp.

The formation of the Network Computing Projects business unit and the
sponsoring of the Java Customer Summit supports IBM's corporate-wide network
computing strategy and will help accelerate the development of web-enabled
applications that support the 100% Pure Java initiative. The unit is already
seeing tremendous demand for its services from both public and private sector
enterprises.

"Enterprises worldwide are quickly learning to appreciate the tremendous
value of network computing solutions based on cross-platform standards, such
as Java," said John Soyring, director worldwide technical projects for IBM's
Personal Software Products division. "The demand for our custom application
design and development services is growing rapidly We are recruiting and
training Java application developers in order to satisfy these enterprise
customer needs."

IBM developers are already working with companies around the globe to help
define, design and develop custom applications, as well as convert existing
client/server applications to network computing solutions. The teams aim to
complete projects within one Web year, allowing companies to put new
applications into production within 90 days. Enterprises currently working
with this new group come from a variety of industries, such as retail,
banking, insurance, transportation, utilities, and government agencies.

"It is amazing how quickly IBM recognized the needs of the OS/2 installed
base, and even more impressive that they have already assembled a team of
experts to start building custom applications that work on the Java
cross-platform solution," said Tim Sloane, director, Aberdeen Group. "Equally
impressive is IBM's recent commitment to developing Java applications for
customers allowing applications to run on OS/2 Warp and other Java-compliant
operating systems."

Java Customer Summit

In addition to education and training, customers attending the conference
will learn IBM's plans for the large set of network computing technologies
that are being developed in the industry and how these technologies can be
used to build industrial-strength applications for networked environments.
The conference will include Java application development technologies from
IBM, Lotus and JavaSoft***, a business unit of Sun Microsystem's, Inc.

Java for OS/2 Warp

OS/2 Warp 4 is the first PC operating system solution to incorporate Java
technology allowing users to run Java applets and Java applications
independent of a Web browser. OS/2 Warp 4 includes the code necessary for
running Java applications, a Java developers toolkit, and Java applet
samples. In addition, IBM plans to roll-out OS/2 Warp version 3 and OS/2 Warp
Connect support for Java v1.0.2 in early 1997.

For Internet users, IBM offers complete information about the company, its
products, services and technology on the World Wide Web. The IBM home page is
at http://www.ibm.com. The fastest, easiest way to find any information about
IBM software is to go to the IBM Software homepage at
