Subject: FREEWARE: DYNDNS/2 3.3 RELEASED (ML.org MS3 compatible)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
DYNDNS/2 3.3 is now released. Get it at:
http://sektortech.dyndns.com
http://sektortech.dyn.ml.org
DYNDNS/2 3.3 now works with the new ML.org WWW page setup. Doesn't support
all the new features but works perfectly. You will also notice that Ml.org
updates your IP very fast now (1 to 5 seconds rather than 10 to 20 minutes
:) Please note that ML.org just switch providers. DNS lag is still there.
Please wait at least 48 hours and then try again before E-mail mailing me
about DYNDNS/2 problems. Within the next 48 hours DNS lag should be gone. To
get more information about DYNDNSes check out these URLs:
http://www.dyndns.com

Jason J. Czerak NewOrder@flash.net
DYNDNS/2 3.3 setup.exe (setup version 3.1) has a slight MISSING LABEL
problem when you try to enable dyndns.com and disable ml.org. I have fixed
it and just replaced the ZIP on my WWW/FTP server. The fixed setup version
is 3.2. If you downloaded DYNDNS/2 before 13:00 EST time on 7-25-97 I
suggest you RE-DL it.
Thanks.

Jason J. Czerak NewOrder@flash.net
This has not been a good day for me. :/ A missing "end" was found and now is
fix as of 7-25-97 16:00 EST. Only affects people using JUST dyndns.com.
Sorry if this is just any inconvenience. I ran DYNDNS/2 though some tests
and different configurations and found it to work properly.

Abuse Source Code Released
Reply-to: ddt@crack.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Crack released the Abuse source code to the public domain recently. Abuse
was a shareware and retail game released for DOS, MacOS, Linux, Irix, and
AIX platforms.
The source is available at
http://games.3dreview.com/abuse/files/abuse_pd.tgz and
http://games.3dreview.com/abuse/files/abuse_pd.zip
If you don't know the 1st thing about Abuse,
http://crack.com/games/abuse and http://games.3dreview.com/abuse
Lastly, if you want to discuss the source (this is a just-in-case thing- it
may very well not get used), we put a small newsgroup up at
news://addicted.to.crack.com/crack.technical
That is also where we'll prolly host a newsgroup about Golgotha DLL's, mods,
editing, movies and stuff like that later on.
=-ddt->
[In a follow up email, the author indicates that Thomas Bonk & others are
interested in porting efforts. Mod.]
I'm sorry- I didn't mention in the post, but I put it on
comp.os.os2.announce because we get lots of requests to port games to OS/2.
This is the first commercial game to go completely public domain, so it's an
opportunity for OS/2 coders to do a port. Wouldn't be surprised if Thomas
Bonk took a stab at the port. If he doesn't, I'd be even less surprised if
an IBMer did.

Request for Suggestions for Palm Pilot Desktop for OS/2
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
As you probably know, the US Robotics Palm Pilot PDA's Desktop Personal
Information Manager runs in Win95 and NT, the Win-32s version does not run
well under OS/2 and it does not allow connectivity from the Palm Pilot to
your PC.
This means that, to download and upload the information from the PDA to your
PC, you have to reboot to NT/95, likewise to access the PDA information in
the PIM Desktop.
Mr. Olaf Kolling has volunteered to write a Native version of the Palm
Desktop for OS/2.
What he needs are suggestions on functionality, specific OS/2 enhancements
and user interface.
His homepage is http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/5236/

A short while ago there was a lengthy discussion about this topic.
I just sat in on a telephone conference call with Technical Support in
Austin Texas. Here's how they described the policy, and I'm paraphrasing.
A public FixPak is translated into 26 different languages. A controlled
FixPak is in the language of the originating customers' language only.
Obviously, the public FixPak is more costly for IBM to create in both money
and time.
Both public and controlled are available to anyone. The controlled FixPak
can be obtained by calling your country's service organization. You will get
the language of the orginator though. Controlled FixPaks are considered
standard in every other respect. The notion that controlled FixPaks are only
available to a select few is wrong.
All FixPaks public and controlled are available in US English along with the
language of the originator.
The bottom line, (if there are any IBMers out there that feel this is
incorrect please comment), is anyone is entitled to any FixPak. As far as
cost is concerned, that is up to your country's service organization.
Typically it's free.
My personal procedure is to apply FixPaks only as needed, i.e., when it
fixes a problem that I am experiencing or when a certain piece of software
requires it. I also am prepared to back it out in the likely event :>) that
it breaks something else. IBM claims they rarely add function to FixPaks.
Huh! Chkdsk?
Sans adieu,
Danny Rubis
======================================================================
I have some answers from your last mailout.
1) regarding Voicetype. As Ian said, the main reason that IBM has used
the US english version is the relating to codepage usage. ie there are
some programs that use the US codepage data in their save files, and if
you suddenly change over to UK codepage, then this data is no longer
accessable.
2) for Paul Hansen's questions:
i)
if you install OS/2 into C drive, and then install win95 over the top of
C drive then yes - win95 will completely screw OS/2
however - as voytek has said (assuming OS/2 is not on drive C:) - the
install process for win95 sets the win95 partition active - so all you
need to do is install, then use fdisk to set boot manager back to
active, and all is well again.
ii)
Boot manager will support as many OSes as you can install. The limit is
mainly from DOS in that you can only have 4 partitions on a hard disk
(eg boot manager (which is a primary), primary, primary, and extended)
now win95 (like dos/win3.x) likes to be on drive C: otherwise all hell
breaks loose. therefore, boot off OS/2 disks and install partitions as
described above. Then you have win/DOS on one primary, win95 on the
other primary, and with logical partitions in the extended partition, or
on the second drive, you can install linux and OS/2 - as these more
MATURE OSes can boot from a logical drive.
eg - my home system
Hard Disk 1 : Quantum Fireball ST 6.4GB
Hard Disk 2 : Quantum Fireball TM 3.2GB
What boot manager displays is this :
now if i wanted to, i could have Linux installed in one of the logical
